OFFICE CULTURE: very friendly and non-political. The culture is very much one of giving staff autonomy within their jobs. People keep closely to office hours and everyone breaks for lunch.
OFFICE ENVIRONMENT: The office is quite new, we only moved in a few months ago. It's a large open plan space, although the directors have offices. It's not very colourful but we can personalise our desks (although there is a clear desk policy of sorts). It's pretty quiet though rather than being hectic and noisy like some offices. There isn't much eyecandy for the girls in my opinion either.
CAREER PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITIES: not really in marketing during my time but in the other departments there is, as there are a lot more positions and a structured hierarchy.
COLLEAGUES: one of the best things about this company is the people. Without exception everyone is nice and friendly. Company social events are always great fun. The day-to-day work environment is always good. I've made some really good friends here.
SOCIAL CULTURE: There is a really good social vibe within FEXCO. There is always a group of people at the pub. Departments go out to lunch together a lot. Usually drinks in the pub most Fridays. Within marketing, we see each other socially quite a lot anyway.
COMPANY SOCIAL EVENTS: There is a company Christmas do - all drinks and food paid for. 2006 was at Madame Tussauds. We also have a summer party, last year a Thames cruise with free drinks again. The company pays for a drink or two at the pub on the first Friday of the month. Mostly leaving do's are paid for by the company as well. In marketing we get to do evening events occasionally such as the Sony Sports Awards, or the MOBOs, which are all paid for. The company has Also been known to pay for taxis home at these events as well, although can't be counted on.
LOCAL AREA: Hammersmith is pretty good. Lots of shops inc Primark & TK Max. Olympia is just up the road, as is Kensington and Notting Hill.
LOCAL BARS: There is a nice cosy pub called The Queens Head, also Bar 38 and lots of others.
FOOD SOURCES: There are quite a few sandwich shops, as well as the usual fast food. Hammersmith is really good for Thai food and there are quite a few nice Thai restaurants in the area. We have a drinks vending machine in the staff area.
INTERNET POLICY: lots of websites are restricted during work hours although they do release most at lunch and after 5pm
PARKING: there is an underground carpark for directors only. It's also possible to get hold of a pass for a nearby carpark
OTHER COMMENTS: This is a great company to work for, I would recommend it to anyone. Working in marketing has been excellent and I've had the opportunity to do so many things that I would never have done otherwise. The company looks after its employees really well. The health insurance even gives you money back at Christmas! The managers pretty much give all staff autonomy within their roles and there are training opportunities for everyone.
